University of the West of Scotland

Exams

CIW modules offered by the University of the West of Scotland are assessed using official CIW exams. Each module requires you to pass one exam, with the exception of Web Languages for which two exams are required. Exam content is provided by CIW - again with one exception: the Java Programming course which is assessed using Sun's official exam where a pass is recognised by both Sun and CIW.

CIW exams are fairly expensive if you use a commercial testing centre like Pearson VUE or Prometric. However, by registering with the University you will be offered a free exam attempt, and discounted resits, provided you use the University's Test Centre.

The free exam must be taken by the cut-off date announced by your course tutor. Normally the cut-off date will be 6 weeks after the last class.

Any exam taken after the cut-off date - be it your first attempt or a resit - is chargable. Please contact the University's Test Centre [http://www.uws.ac.uk/schoolsdepts/computing/itacademy/test-centre.asp] for payment details and exam booking on 0141 848 3735, or by email to mary.kennedy@uws.ac.uk.
